Students at Bishop Ryan have unique opportunities to serve our community through the Stewardship of Creation. The Bishop Ryan Innovators for a Greener Hamilton Today (BRIGHT) have adopted beehives at various locations in the area owned by home hobbyists and Hayseed Organic Farm.

Most people don‘t realize that these insects are essential to our survival. We simply could not maintain our food supply without their role in the pollination of crops. Albert Einstein has pointed out that, “If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live.”

Unfortunately, the bees ARE dying. Worldwide, they are disappearing from their hives by the millions in a strange phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). Here in Canada, we are not yet affected by CCD but beekeepers are facing other challenges and are struggling to maintain their hives as research continues.

Students from Bishop Ryan exchange their keen eyesight, strength, and enthusiasm for the wealth of knowledge provided by the bee-keepers. Most importantly, we let them know that we are appreciate and value what they do, and are willing to learn and assist in any way.

Bishop Ryan Innovators for a Greener Hamilton Today also shows support for our local beekeepers through awareness campaigns, class or school presentations and selling Dutchman‘s Gold Honey from Carlisle, Ontario.

It isn‘t just Christian Service, it is a relationship of EXCHANGE.
